MONOTYPE PRINTS:

LAND, SEA, & SKY

It begins with a clean plate: glass, acrylic, or gel. Then the image fresh in my mind begins to build with brushstrokes, marks, textures, and washes. Working quickly before the ink and pigment have a chance to dry brings spontaneity, freshness, and movement to the image. Next, the paper is laid - thick watercolor, cotton rag, Japanese print, or handmade fiber papers - each giving its own unique feel to the work. Finally, the print is pulled from the plate, emerging with surprise elements and a mystique that can only made through the experimental process of monotypes. Ink now transferred to paper, the plate is “broken” and a one-of-a-kind painting remains.
