The great artist and activist Ansel Adams personally captured and promoted the concept of “Wilderness Value” to conservation groups, Congress, and Presidents, ultimately using art to help establish protections for our country’s natural wonders. In the spirit of his inspirational legacy, I hope to lift up his concept of “The Wilderness Idea” - “a mystique; a valid, intangible, non-materialist experience”. I dedicated myself to multiple ‘Great American Road Trips’ to revisit, reinterpret, and reinvigorate the public’s value for our parks and public lands. I created Postcards from the Parks, taking my viewers along my journeys though a travel blog, social media, and the plein-air works of art created along the way. In inspiring a new appreciation for our parks as Adams did 75 years ago, I bonded with those I met along the way and shared my experiences and artwork with students across the country as a visiting artist and guest speaker at schools and universities.
